Pops Carter and the Funkmonsters north texas | born shreveport, louisiana
He's 80 plus years young, he's still actively performing and he's hot! Vocalist Carter has paid his dues in decades on and off the road, and he has sung with other blues luminaries including B.B. King and Stevie Ray. Pops and his wife, Minnie Lee, a cousin of Lightnin' Hopkins, have made their home for over 30 years in the Denton, Texas area, where Pops has become a fixture and a legend in local blues clubs.
Tommy Castro
san francisco, california
A hard driving, rock-propelled blues nouveau sound has made lead guitarist and vocalist Castro into a '90s blues phenom.
W.C. Clark Blues Review
austin, texas
Legendary Texas blues guitarist W.C. Clark has been the recipient of the coveted W.C. Handy Award.
Albert Collins
blues heaven | born in leona, texas
Collins, an eclectic Texas bluesman and a wonderful human being, left this earth in November 1993. What a shame there are so few sites dedicated to this giant of the blues, and that the individual who bought the albertcollins.com domain has never done anything with it.
Johnny Clyde Copeland blues heaven | lived in houston, texas | born in louisiana
Known as the "Texas Twister," Copeland was buried with his famous guitar strap, which was emblazoned with the word, "Texas," after he died in June 1998 from complications after heart surgery. In his lifetime, Copeland was the recipient of four W.C. Handy Awards, and a Grammy for "Showdown" with Albert Collins and Robert Cray. Click here for the transcript of an August 1996 interview with Mai Cramer of Real Blues.
Lamont Cranston Blues Band
minnesota
These folks recently celebrated their 30th year as a band and have performed with just about everybody of note in the blues. Check 'em out.
Curbside Jug Band
san antonio, texas
One-legged, retired alligator wrestler Ron Ramey plays the jug in a band that also features banjo, acoustic guitar, W.W. Schnipp on harmonica, and some mighty decent vocals. Reserve judgment until you hear their sound clips in Real Audio -- you'll swear you've been transported back to the old radio days of the '20s and '30s.
